About Sacramento Valley Rose

President's Message

Welcome to the website for the Sacramento Valley Rose chapter of the Romance Writers of America!

We are a large, active chapter. Our members range from aspiring authors to authors you'll recognize from the NY Times best sellers list. We have monthly meetings, a yearly holiday tea to raise money to donate toward literacy and a biannual writers' retreat in the mountains of Sonora.

We're not only writers. We're readers too. Last year we hosted our first of hopefully many Readers' Luncheons. Debbie Macomber was our fantastic speaker last year. This year, we're pleased and privileged to be hosting Julia Quinn.

Our annual three-page read event is also a favorite tradition. Every year, Judy Meyers reads the first three pages submitted by chapter members allowed. Other meeting attendees are invited and encouraged to provide feedback that the authors have found invaluable. Many of these three page submissions have gone on to become books on the shelves today!

Feel free to explore the website and the links we've provided. If you're interested in becoming a member, whether you're close enough to visit us monthly or just want to connect with our outstanding members via our mailing list, we look forward to hearing from you.

We wish you much success for 2007!

Sarah Palmero
President

Benefits of Membership

So you’re a member of Romance Writers of America. Congratulations! You’ve joined one of the biggest and most supportive group of writers around. If you’re reading this, you must be looking for a local chapter as well. You’ve definitely come to the right place.

If you’re looking for a group of friendly, dedicated writers following the same dream you are, publishing in the romance industry, RWA SVR could very well be what you’ve been looking for.

We are over 100 members strong and include writers in various stages in their careers: from the just starting out to the multi-published, to award winning and best-selling super authors.

Besides the support and comradarie of other romance writers, member benefits include:

  • a bi-monthly electronic newsletter packed with writing articles and details of what’s going on with our members
  • the opportunity to join our Yahoo! E-loop, an online support system where you can ask questions or announce good (or bad) news
  • access to the Members Only section of the website
  • monthly meetings designed to help you on the road to a career in writing romance fiction.
  • access to Financial Aid. Our Perseverance Fund was established to help members in financial need who otherwise might not be able to pay their SVR annual dues. There is a similar program offered by RWA National. Visit their website for more details.

We love to celebrate our members’ accomplishments. Good and bad news receive chocolate, sales receive roses and even writing THE END to a project can bring a sweet treat. Every step an SVR member takes is one we recognize and applaud.

Don’t live in Sacramento? We don’t mind! We have a number of long distance members so please don’t let location stand in your way of becoming a Rose. We strive to welcome each and every member with open arms and tons of encouragement. So stop by one of our meetings or click on over to our membership page for more information on how you can join the Sacramento Valley Rose.

Hope to see you soon!

We cannot accept anyone who does not belong to RWA National.

Dues for new members are $30 if joining from January to June, and $15 if joining from July to December. Please read your membership application for details.

**Lapsed members (members who have not renewed in over a year) must rejoin the chapter before attending more meetings. Lapsed members (anyone who has belonged to SVR in the past) MUST PAY THE FULL RENEWAL RATE OF $30. There is NO PRO-RATED COST FOR LAPSED MEMBERS.
